Welcome to BSS Co-Operative Education

COME and EXPLORE a career of YOUR CHOOSING !!!!

Co-operative education allows YOU to experience the workplace in a "hands on" manner. Your co-op experience will probably play an important role in guiding your post-secondary planning and hopefully facilitate your transition from school to the world of work.

Please click here to see the BSS Co-Operative Education Course Outline

There are FIVE main components to Co-Op at BSS:

Component (1) - Preplacement Assignments - Students must submit ALL summative preplacement assignments (outlined below) prior to starting their work placement. Preplacement assignments should be submitted electronically (as attachments) to my email at cussong@limestone.on.ca

Component (2) - Work Placement - Students will start their work placement approximately 2 weeks after the semester starts (as long as all preplacement assignments have been submitted). Students will work the following number of hours based on the number of co-op credits they signed up for:

1 co-op credit - 110 hrs (90 hrs at placement + 2O hrs preplacement)

2 co-op credits - 220 hrs (200 hrs at placement + 20 hrs preplacement)

3 co-op credits - 330 hrs (310 hrs at placement + 20 hrs preplacement)

4 co-op credits - 440 hrs (420 hrs at placement + 20 hrs preplacement)

Placements will continue until the end of the semester.

Component (3) - Log Sheets - Students will complete a log sheet for each week of placement. Log sheets should include a written description of daily duties/responsibilities performed at the placement, hours worked during the week and employer/supervisor signature. LOG SHEETS THAT ARE NOT SIGNED OFF BY THE EMPLOYER WILL NOT COUNT TOWARDS A CREDIT. Log sheets are to be submitted to the folder outside the Co-Op office in Student Services.

Component (4) - Placement Supervisor Evaluation - Placement supervisors will complete an evaluation gauging student placement performance at mid-term and towards the end of the semester. Students are responsible for returning evaluations to me via the folder outside the Co-Op office in Student Services.

Component (5) - Written Placement Reflection and Photo Journal Culminating Activity - Students will complete a written reflection and photo journal (outlined below) to objectively look back upon their placement experience at the end of the semester.
