We’ve had a busy couple of weeks since returning from March Break. We connected with families at Parent/Guardian Night, second semester IEPs were sent home, we recognized the Transgender Day of Visibility, Earth hour, and students participated in the Euclid Math Contest. Ms. Niemi’s Kinesiology completed a 'Making a Muscle Model' activity to better understand the various layers of a muscle.<div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 1fr 1fr; display: grid;"><div class="editor-layoutItem"><img src="/images/1aa96be9-be32-41bb-90f9-64c097d19410" alt="Kin 1" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"><img src="/images/97858fd1-c87b-4fd4-be16-9c21642c5cf9" alt="Kin 3" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></div><div class="editor-layoutItem"><img src="/images/85a8eb89-37ad-4bf6-94ee-0eb8a6e45254" alt="Kin 2" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></div></div>On Saturday, March 28th, the Eastern Ontario Chess Tournament was held at Bayridge.  Students who participated played 5 chess matches throughout the day.  Congratulations to BSS students Christopher Lee who won the Grade 10 Division, and Emerick Sagima who won the Grade 9 Division.  Both chess players now advance to the Ontario Chess Championships!  Interested in playing chess or learning how to play? The BSS Chess Club meets Wednesdays after school in the Social Sciences Bearpit. Ecoteam hosted Cookies for Climate Change at the end of March.  Due to selling out the first day, the fundraiser was brought back this week. You cannot graduate without these. Limestone homestay families are carefully matched with students, supported by dedicated Limestone staff, and guided throughout the placement so families are never on their own. We’ve had reports of some fast-driving in our roundabout, and concerns in the Bayridge Public School parking lot, so we kindly ask families to use our school’s parking lot instead and help keep everyone safe during busy pick‑up and drop‑off times.  If our roundabout is busy, please avoid blocking the road and park in our parking lot to wait. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement.  Courses are offered for students currently in Grades 9 to 12. Grade 8 students may reach ahead and register for the Gr 10 Civics (CHV 2O) and Careers (GLC 2O) half credit courses ONLY! Grade 8 students signing up for Civics and Careers must register for both courses with Summer Session. Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1. Students may react in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and how connected they feel to the situation. With time, reassurance, and support from caring adults, these reactions often ease. We encourage families to keep lines of communication open at home, to invite questions, and to offer reassurance as needed. March 13 Bayridge Secondary School Newsletter

We've had a lot going on in our Social Sciences department! Reminder: Equal Consideration Deadline for SHSM Applications – March 27, 2026

Students and families are reminded that the equal consideration deadline for Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) <a href="https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Xxb04a7rgk2nPKDeWTgwvh8EISEOpXRHkjVBXD0LbfFUMkhHWDlRS0tBSEdQSjdWT1dBWFpaMEI2Si4u" class="editor-link">program applications</a> is March 27, 2026. While SHSM applications are accepted on a continuous basis, students who apply by this date will be considered first and notified by April 24, 2026.The SHSM is a specialized program for Grades 11 and 12 students that allows them to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting all requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
