The last two weeks have been jam-packed with events and activities.   <img src="/images/508979ef-3feb-4de0-b14c-105a8de692a6" alt="IMG 2783.JPEGed (2)" width="202" height="135" style="width:202px;height:135px;display:inline-block;float:right">On Thursday April 2, Arts Council members and SHSM Arts & Culture students went with Art Teacher Ms. Lees over to Bayridge Public School. They had fun helping out in 3 different classes and worked on art projects that have been displayed at Bayridge Public School.    <img src="/images/d2ba1608-b64f-4e8a-acc8-3f6883b06dc7" alt="Badminton" width="205" height="214" style="width:205px;height:214px;display:inline-block;float:left">The badminton team has been training hard since the middle of February. We started competing in tournaments after the March Break. The Seniors finished their season last week at the Open KASSAA Championships with Shaelah Cassan and Clarke Delaney placing in the top 8 in mixed doubles, while Alex Abbink placed top 6 in men’s singles. Yesterday, the junior team competed at their KASSAA Championship.  Top 8 finishers were Emily Travers in women’s singles as well as Shahriar Hasan and Matthew Smith in men’s doubles. In mixed doubles, the grade 9 team of Chase Smith and Addy Swaine placed third while the women’s doubles team of Honoka Hisamatsu and Akira Nagano were the KASSAA Silver Medallists!  Way to go Bayridge!  Badminton club will continue Fridays right after school! BCSP Sweeps the Podium at Titans Invitational The Bayridge Computer Specialist Program didn’t just have a good showing at the Titans Invitational Coding Competition in Belleville—we swept the medals! After a full day of intense problem-solving, teamwork, and the occasional “wait… why isn’t this working?!” moment, Bayridge teams ended up on the podium in every category: <ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Junior Silver – Shenbo Wu, Tadhg Stewart, Dylan Yu, Tiger Yu </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Senior Bronze (tie) – Evan Keeler, Andrew Burke, Denny Christopolous, Josh Miles </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Senior Bronze (tie) – Jiyeon Park, Olivia Ellerton, Sam Hachey, Liam Fraser-Evans </li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Senior Silver – Wylder Ballantyne, Samuel Ross, Paul Wilson </li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Senior Gold – Gabe Bergeron, Hamish MacGregor, Ben Saulnier, Milo Zelmanovits </li></ul>That’s right—Bayridge brought home Gold, Silver, and Bronze (and then grabbed an extra Bronze for good measure). Our students competed against some very strong teams from across the region and showed incredible perseverance, collaboration, and problem-solving skill all day long. We’re extremely proud of this group—although it does raise the question: were they this good all along, or have they just been hiding it during class?  (-; Either way… what a performance.<div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 1fr 1fr; Our 3 Rocket League teams have begun their provincial spring season playing Wednesday nights every week for the next month. This Saturday they will be testing themselves against other teams from across the nation in a national tournament. Last Saturday, we had 20 students in 3 teams participate in a Marvel Rivals tournament. We round off the week with a Blue and Green Spirit Day on Thursday and a School Lunch wrapper House Challenge on Friday! Interested Grade 9s and 10s should come to work in teams while tackling challenging math questions as we practice for the Junior Mathlete competition happening later this semester. They should see their Math Teacher if they have any questions. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: left;">Bayridge Coding Competition Returns </h2>The Bayridge Computer Specialist Program is gearing up for its fifth annual coding competition on Thursday, April 23rd in the school cafeteria—and it’s always one of the most exciting days of the year! Students will compete in pairs to tackle a series of challenging (and sometimes head-scratching!) computer science problems, racing against the clock and other schools to earn the highest score. It’s fast-paced, collaborative, and a whole lot of fun to watch. As always, Bayridge is proud to have the largest number of teams participating by a wide margin. We’re looking forward to another great day of problem-solving, teamwork, and maybe even a little friendly rivalry! <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Life Beyond School Event</h2>All are welcome! This year, 17 BCSP students will be there sharing their work and running interactive activities for the community. One of the best parts of the day? Watching elementary students crowd around our booth to try out student-created video games—often refusing to leave until they’ve beaten the high score. It’s always a highlight and a great reminder of how fun learning can be. <img src="/images/5aadce18-4e7f-45f4-985f-a14dffd0dab9" alt="KSR" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: left;">Bayridge Elementary Computer Challenge Night </h2>Mark your calendars! The BCSP will be hosting its annual Elementary Computer Challenge on Thursday, May 28th—and it’s always a fantastic night. Grade 7 and 8 students from across Kingston will team up in groups of three to take on a variety of fun and challenging problem-solving tasks. It’s a great mix of teamwork, creativity, and just the right amount of competition. Behind the scenes, many of our BCSP students help bring the event to life—volunteering as judges, proctors, and mentors throughout the evening. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement.  Courses are offered for students currently in Grades 9 to 12. Grade 8 students may reach ahead and register for the Gr 10 Civics (CHV 2O) and Careers (GLC 2O) half credit courses ONLY! Grade 8 students signing up for Civics and Careers must register for both courses with Summer Session. Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks since returning from March Break. The BSS Chess Club meets Wednesdays after school in the Social Sciences Bearpit. Ecoteam hosted Cookies for Climate Change at the end of March.  Due to selling out the first day, the fundraiser was brought back this week. March 13 Bayridge Secondary School Newsletter

We've had a lot going on in our Social Sciences department! There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Students and families are reminded that the equal consideration deadline for Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) <a href="https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Xxb04a7rgk2nPKDeWTgwvh8EISEOpXRHkjVBXD0LbfFUMkhHWDlRS0tBSEdQSjdWT1dBWFpaMEI2Si4u" class="editor-link">program applications</a> is March 27, 2026. While SHSM applications are accepted on a continuous basis, students who apply by this date will be considered first and notified by April 24, 2026.The SHSM is a specialized program for Grades 11 and 12 students that allows them to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting all requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
