Dear Families,As we move towards the last week of the 2025-2026 school year, I want to share a few important updates and reminders as we wrap up the year and begin looking ahead to September.2026-2027 School Year Budget At last night’s Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Limestone District School Board’s 2026-2027 budget, prepared in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board standards. The budget includes total revenues of $340.98 million and total expenditures of $345.76 million and is compliant with Ministry of Education requirements.The full <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/budget_committee-1719463885020" class="editor-link">Budget Committee Agenda Package is available on the Limestone DSB website</a>, along with a new resource, <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/budget___financial_statements" class="editor-link">Budget Overview – Your Guide to Understanding School Board Funding available on the LDSB Budget and Financial Statements webpage.</a>The Budget overview document provides a more visual summary of the budget with highlights.Motion Passed by Board of TrusteesThe Board of Trustees passed a motion at last night’s meeting recognizing the challenges present in many classrooms and their impact on students, frontline educators, and support staff. The motion directs the Chair to write to the Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education, the Premier, local MPPs, OPBSA, CODE, and union partners, requesting additional funding to support the hiring of more frontline staff and will highlight that Limestone annually spends approximately $10 million beyond provincial funding to support special education.Reminder: P.A. Day – Friday, June 26, 2026 A reminder to families that Friday, June 26 is a P.A. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. Year End Letter to Students and Parents

The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families: Dear Students, Parents and Families,To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Together, these changes will help students stay engaged in their learning and be better prepared for life after graduation.I hope the summer ahead provides an opportunity to recharge and enjoy some well-earned time together. Limestone Students Earn Prestigious Scholarships, Including National Loran Honour

Limestone District School Board graduates have received significant scholarships to support their post-secondary education. Nathan KashiraKingston Secondary School (KSS) graduate Nathan Kashira has been selected as a <a href="https://loranscholar.ca/scholars/nathan-kashira/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="editor-link">2026 Loran Scholar</a>, out of more than 5,400 applicants across Canada. Of the 36 selected to become the Class of 2026, Nathan is among the nine from Ontario who were selected. Nathan owns and operates a drone photography and videography company. He also leads a church volunteer team dedicated to supporting the community through food security initiatives, sports programs, and social services. This scholarship is to assist newly admitted international students beginning their first term of studies in Winter 2026 or later and undertaking their university studies in English in an approved undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa.  Tooba Waseem  LCVI graduate Tooba Waseem is the recipient of the Queen’s University Engineering International Admission Award of $10,000 to $25,000 per year. This is awarded based on academic achievement to international students entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program in Smith Engineering. The award is renewable for three subsequent years provided the student continues to be registered full-time in a program of study within Smith Engineering.    Yuyue Feng  LCVI graduate Yuyue Feng has been awarded the University of Calgary’s Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Scholarship for Students Outside the Calgary Area. This scholarship totals $30,400, renewable in the second and third year, and is offered annually for academic excellence to undergraduate students entering first year at the Schulich School of Engineering.  Hannah Kim  LCVI graduate Hannah Kim has won the <a href="https://horatioalger.ca/scholarships-and-services/undergraduate-scholarships/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="editor-link">Horatio Alger National Entrepreneurial Scholarship</a> worth $25,000. It is awarded to 10 students across Canada who demonstrate a strong commitment to pursue and begin a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university in Canada starting fall 2026, the desire and ability to be entrepreneurial in a chosen field, who have been involved in co-curricular activities and community service, and who display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.  Malika Rouse  LCVI graduate Malika Rouse has been awarded McMaster University’s <a href="https://registrar.mcmaster.ca/aid-awards-for-black-students/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="editor-link">Brighter World Entrance Award</a> of $5,000. This award was established in 2020 by the university to celebrate the achievements of Black students entering an undergraduate program.    Clara Christopher  LCVI graduate Clara Christopher has been awarded the Ken and Ann Watts Memorial Foundation Scholarship of $3,000. This scholarship is awarded to students who will be entering a Canadian college or university program which will provide training for an arts career.     Students must have participated in a National Theatre School of Canada’s District Festival production in the year of the application, and have demonstrated exceptional talent in, and commitment to, the arts in their school and community.  Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington Student Awards 2026  On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington held its annual “Take It for Granted” evening in Selby.  This year, $84,000 in student awards were presented to Limestone District School Board graduating students from Lennox and Addington County who are heading to post-secondary school.   Since inception, the Foundation has distributed $2.16 million to charitable causes and student awards thanks to the generosity of donors. <figure><img src="/images/4887ab46-c977-4bb0-b8e4-0ed91153566b?fingerprint=ppb20260616153438" alt="Group of students who were awarded Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington Student Awards 2026" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"><figcaption>Image provided by the Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington</figcaption></figure>Charlotte Uens Student AwardEstablished in 2009, this award is made possible by the donation of Stuart Uens in remembrance of his mother, Charlotte. The Uens family understood the value of working hard. It is designed to help those students who share the Uens’ values of hard work and education by providing annual awards to graduates of Napanee District Secondary School (NDSS) for their post-secondary education.  Maya Bellegarde, Katie Buchan, Jocelyn Corriveau, Abby Kelsey, Natasha Kennedy-Eros, Chloe McArthur, Elizabeth Miller, Finlay Paul, Laney Wansborough, Vienna Ballance-Hinch, Megan Delarosbil, Richard James Punchard, Ryder Steven Punchard, Autumn Ramwood, Noah van der Werf  Mary Jo Field Indigenous Student Award Established in 2024, this student award is made possible by the donation of David Field and family in remembrance of his wife Mary Jo. The Field family understand the value of working hard. They also made education a priority. Understanding that the cost of education could be prohibitive for some students, they established this fund. It is designed to help an Indigenous student, who shares the Fields’ values of hard work and education, to take the next step to a post-secondary school education. Abby Scott, North Addington Education Centre (NAEC)  Werk Poole Student AwardEstablished in 2004, The Werk Poole Student Award was introduced as a tribute to Werk Poole, a leader in the Napanee community for many years. This fund annually disburses an award to a graduating secondary school student, resident of Lennox and Addington County, who has been accepted into a Leadership Training Program. The student will have demonstrated knowledge of, and interest in, the qualities inherent in leadership roles. Significant community ties and volunteer experience would be possible indicators of a student’s commitment to a leadership program. Chloe Mazurski, NAEC  Camden East Women’s Institute Student AwardEstablished in 2006, this fund will provide an annual award for a Napanee District Secondary School student to attend a community college as follows: this student should be a resident of Camden East Ward #1 / Newburgh Ward #2 areas and awarded based upon criteria set out by the Camden East Women’s Institute. Candidates will be recommended by Napanee District Secondary School. Devan Maxwell  Goodyear Student Award  Established in 2002, the Goodyear Award provides an award to a graduating high school student from Lennox and Addington County, for the purpose of post-secondary education and training in technical education. Ryder Steven Punchard, NDSS  Rotary Club of Napanee Service Above Self Student Award Established in 2024, the Napanee Rotary “Service Above Self” Award recognizes one graduating student from each Lennox and Addington high school who is planning on attending post-secondary education. It is designed to support a student who has demonstrated a dedication to serving their community by leading or actively participating in initiatives which improve an aspect of their community in a meaningful way. The three successful students will be chosen by their high schools – NDSS, Ernestown Secondary School (ESS), and NAEC. Karlee Hickey, ESS Abby Kelsey, NDSS Chloe Mazurski, NAEC  Ross and Helen Oliver Student Award   This award is made possible through the donation of John and David Oliver in loving memory of their father, Ross and mother, Helen. The Olivers were both passionate about education and its amazing platform that helps shape the future and personal growth of our young people.  Students must be attending NDSS pursuing post-secondary education in the upcoming school year. Abigail Misevicius Nara Rickard  The Val Brooks-McEwen Memorial Award Established this year, 2026, in memory of Val Brooks-McEwen, recognizing 40 years of service at NDSS. Presented to a graduating NDSS student who exemplifies kindness, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to inclusion. Lauryn Card Ellah Reynolds  Congratulations to all scholarship winners!

Invitation for Applications External Members for the Audit Committee

The Limestone District School Board is seeking community members with strong financial expertise and business acumen to serve as external members of its Audit Committee for a three‑year term beginning September 2026.The Audit Committee consists of three Trustees and two independent community members. Its mandate is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its governance and oversight responsibilities. Key areas of responsibility include:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Oversight of the financial reporting process</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Review of the internal control framework</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Monitoring risk management practices</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Evaluation of the performance of internal and external auditors</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements</li></ul>The Committee meets three times per year. There have been many opportunities to celebrate our Blazer spirit over the past couple of weeks. From community outreach and individual and team accolades to Pride week, the Evening of the Arts, Drama Showcase and the Athletic Banquet, June has had an impressive start!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">BSS Charity Golf tournament</h2>A big thank you to everyone who came out to support our 2nd annual BSS Charity Golf Tournament on May 30th. We enjoyed a fantastic day on the course with staff, family, friends, alumni, and community members. This prestigious event brought together more than 1,000 athletes and coaches from across the province. Conner Smith, Liam Cleary, Jacob Blundell, and Micoh Bugna (as pictured below) competed in Track & Field events, earning medals and ribbons in shot put, standing long jump, the 50m sprint, 100m sprint, and 200m sprint. The team also captured a gold medal in the 4x100 relay! Congratulations to these outstanding athletes for their hard work, sportsmanship, and incredible accomplishments. Each athlete competed with determination and surpassed their ranking by the end of their respective competitions. Micoh qualified for the 100m final and finished 8th. Vivian qualified for the 80m hurdle final and finished 6th. Liam earned a bronze medal in para shot put. While we will miss them greatly, we will them all the best in their next chapter. Once a Blazer, always a Blazer!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">House Champions</h2>Congratulations to the Grade 10 students (Class of 2028) who have won the House Cup Champions for the second consecutive year. Student Council members celebrated their achievement by visiting Grade 10 classes with freshly baked cookies - an enjoyable and well-earned reward. Images can be saved, copied, screenshot, or shared without consent, which can have serious emotional, social, and legal impacts.Police are also reminding young people that receiving a private image does not mean it can be shared with others. Forwarding, posting, or distributing someone else’s personal images without their permission can cause significant harm and can result in criminal consequences.Kingston Police encourage youth to: •    Think before sending photos or messages online  •    Never share someone else’s private images  •    Talk to a trusted adult if they feel pressured to send images  •    Report concerning behaviour to a parent, teacher, or police  •    Use privacy settings and practice safe online habits Parents and guardians are encouraged to have open, ongoing conversations with children about digital safety, consent, and respectful online behaviour.Anyone who feels threatened, pressured, or victimized online is encouraged to seek help and report the incident. OLTS-Ontario is a transition program designed for Grade 12 students (graduating in 2026 or entering Grade 12 in Fall 2026) who have learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, depression, or other mental health disorders, and who are planning to attend college or university. This online program helps students prepare for the transition to postsecondary education while developing a better understanding of themselves and their learning profile. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement.  Courses are offered for students currently in Grades 9 to 12. Grade 8 students may reach ahead and register for the Gr 10 Civics (CHV 2O) and Careers (GLC 2O) half credit courses ONLY! Grade 8 students signing up for Civics and Careers must register for both courses with Summer Session. Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1. Pride Month Recognition in Limestone

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year.  Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. As a publicly funded school board, we have both a legal and moral responsibility to create learning environments where everyone can see themselves reflected and feel a sense of belonging.

Images can be saved, copied, screenshot, or shared without consent, which can have serious emotional, social, and legal impacts.Police are also reminding young people that receiving a private image does not mean it can be shared with others. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement.  Courses are offered for students currently in Grades 9 to 12. Grade 8 students may reach ahead and register for the Gr 10 Civics (CHV 2O) and Careers (GLC 2O) half credit courses ONLY! Grade 8 students signing up for Civics and Careers must register for both courses with Summer Session. Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1.
